Anya Gallaccio Exhibition
A Collaboration Rooted in History and Nature
Lees Court Estate is proud to be a vital partner in the Preserve exhibition by celebrated artist Anya Gallaccio, currently on display at Turner Contemporary in Margate. This immersive artwork, which explores her radical rethinking of the relationship between art and the environment over the past 30 years. The exhibition will also celebrate and connect to Kent’s natural heritage.
At the core of Gallaccio’s work is a striking piece crafted from ash wood, selected from Lees Court Estate and marked for felling due to Ash Dieback. The Estate follows sustainable forestry practices and the ash will represent both the resilience and vulnerability of nature in a time of ecological change.
The Anya Gallaccio: preserve exhibition also features a remarkable 3D element—a model of one of the Dene Holes at Lees Court. This model is crafted from porcelain and local Kent chalk.
Lees Court Estate’s involvement in this exhibition reflects our ongoing dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships that champion both contemporary art and environmental stewardship. We are delighted and proud to support Anya Gallaccio: preserve and encourage all visitors to experience the extraordinary intersection of nature, heritage, and artistic expression now on display at Turner Contemporary, Margate.
In addition, the Exhibition will be accompanied by An Apple A Day, a wide-reaching educational programme, which will include school children planting an Apple Orchard designed by Anya Gallaccio on the Estate which will also be part of the LEARN (Lees Court Education And Research Network) programme.
The exhibition is at the Turner Contemporary, Rendezvous, Margate CT9 1HG
and runs from 28th September 2024 to 26th January 2025
