Very Reverend Robert Willis

The Countess Sondes and all at Lees Court are deeply saddened by the passing of the Very Reverend Robert Willis, Dean Emeritus of Canterbury. The Dean was not only a cherished friend of The Countess but also a devoted supporter of the Lees Court Estate. He brought warmth, wisdom, and enduring friendship to all on the Estate.

His partner, Fletcher Banner said “It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all of Dean Robert’s passing. After a brief illness whilst at Yale in America, Robert suffered heart failure and died on 22nd October”.

During the pandemic, Robert became an unexpected international online media star, offering comfort and support through his daily Morning Prayer services broadcast from the Cathedral garden. Accompanied by his beloved animals, the ‘Garden Congregation’ reached a global audience. offering a unique blend of faith, nature, and comfort during uncertain times.

The Countess Sondes, “I am deeply saddened to lose one of my closest friends, who was one of the most extraordinary people I have had pleasure of knowing”.
